RMI does not publish one universal online price that applies to every workshop category. The amount can depend on the constituent association, membership category, business activity and current subscription structure. The reliable answer is a current written quotation from the RMI regional office or membership team.
The subscription is also only one part of the budget. A workshop may need to correct premises, safety, equipment, staffing, administration or insurance gaps before it meets the applicable accreditation standard.
Separate the fee from readiness costs
Ask RMI to distinguish the application or joining requirements, membership subscriptions, accreditation or inspection-related amounts, VAT, debit-order arrangements and renewal charges. Do not rely on an old forum post or another workshop’s invoice.
- Current RMI subscription for the correct association and category
- Any accreditation, inspection or reinspection amount that applies
- Premises zoning, signage or facility improvements
- Required tools, diagnostics and safety equipment
- Staff training or qualification evidence
- Insurance premiums and risk improvements
- Annual renewal and ongoing compliance costs
Why another workshop’s price may not apply
A general repair workshop, panel beater, fuel retailer and parts dealer do not share the same operational profile. RMI membership spans multiple constituent associations, each with activity-specific requirements.
Business size and current RMI fee rules may also affect the amount. Obtain a dated quote and ask how it will change at the next annual renewal.
Budget for insurance on real exposure
Insurance is not priced as an RMI badge fee. Underwriters consider the peak value of customer vehicles, road tests, tools, turnover, work types, fire exposure, security and claims history.
Prepare these figures before requesting a workshop insurance quotation so the resulting cover is suitable for both operations and any accreditation evidence requested.
A new workshop budgets only for a membership subscription. Before accreditation it must improve fire protection, service a vehicle lift, formalise waste removal and arrange suitable customer-vehicle and workmanship insurance. These readiness costs exceed the subscription and delay opening.
Questions an insurer will ask
- Which association and membership category applies?
- Does the quoted amount include VAT and all applicable stages?
- What renewal date and payment terms apply?
- Will a reinspection cost extra if the first assessment identifies gaps?
- Which facility, equipment and insurance improvements are still required?
